Business crime prevention advice: Pseudoephedrine shoppers

The following pseudoephedrine action plan can be used as a template for staff when confronted by a suspected pseudoephedrine shopper.

  • Where possible, get their details and some photo ID.
  • If in doubt, don't sell them the product they want.
  • As soon as they leave, fill out the fax alert form (available from your local police station).
  • Get vehicle details if you can do so without risking your safety.
  • If they have just left and you have vehicle details, call 111 and ask for Police, and then send the fax alert to 0800 743 7737.
  • Fax/phone the other pharmacies in your area.

Remember: Staff safety is paramount. Staff should not put themselves at risk when dealing with pseudoephedrine shoppers.

When you phone Police, tell them:

  • who you are
  • your full shop name, address and phone number
  • the vehicle details and a description of the shopper/s
  • what was obtained
  • the direction in which the vehicle went
  • if you have notified other pharmacies.
