In Koiterangi (now Kowhitirangi) near Hokitika on the West Coast together with Sergeant Cooper, Constables Tulloch and Best, while trying to apprehend Stanley Graham.

Graham, a West Coast farmer, shot Constable Jordan, the aforementioned Police Officers and three civilians, after refusing to hand over his firearms.
