Auckland police hosted the fourth annual Police National Māori Responsiveness Conference: Ngakia Kia Puawai from 9-12 November 2004.
The 12 Police districts were represented at the conference by 130 Police staff. The theme of the conference was Crime and Crash Reduction: Māori Specific.
Acting commander of Auckland City District, Detective Superintendent Gavin Jones, said the conference programme was designed to challenge Police to further 'strengthen and develop' their initiatives to reduce the over-representation of Māori in victimisation, offending and re-offending.
