I was the victim of a crime when I was in another country. What do I do?
If you are still in the other country: Contact local police and make a complaint. Keep all documentation and contact details in case you want to follow up your enquiry when you return home. If you need assistance or advice, contact the nearest New Zealand diplomatic post.
If you have returned to New Zealand: Make a complaint at your local police station. Take any information and documentation which may be relevant. Local officers will liaise with Interpol; complaints meeting certain criteria will be forwarded to police in the country where the crime occurred. Investigations then become the responsibility of the other country's police.
