Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make an anonymous complaint?

Yes - but there may be limits to how far the police can assist.

You should always call 111 if a crime is happening so police can arrive and take action. If you call afterwards, it may be difficult for police to verify what happened, especially if there are no witnesses present and you wish to remain anonymous.

In a case where you wish to protect your identity for personal reasons, police will be sensitive to your circumstances. They may be able to act while you remain anonymous to the other people involved in your complaint. Please contact your local police station either by phone or in person to discuss your situation with a police officer.

If for some reason you don't feel comfortable talking to Police, then call Crimestoppers NZ on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers NZ is an independent charity working to solve and prevent crime. It's a way for New Zealanders to anonymously report information about crime and criminals via an independent third party.
