How can I tell if an email is genuine or a hoax?

There are several internet sites devoted to recording popular urban myths and legends. Check the Ministry of Consumer Affairs Scamwatch site or do a search for 'urban myths' or 'urban legends' and see if the email appears on any of the sites listed.
