We currently have a vacancy in the National Drug Intelligence Bureau (NDIB) which is hosted by the National Intelligence Centre for an Editorial Research Officer. This position is based at Police National Headquarters, Wellington City. The NDIB is a multi agency strategically focused drug intelligence bureau.
The purpose of this position is:
- To provide editorial and publication support services to the NDIB by setting and maintaining a quality standard for all NDIB intelligence products and publications.
- To provide a comprehensive research capability to the NDIB that provides relevant information and intelligence for all NDIB intelligence products and publications.
We are looking for someone who has the following skills and attributes:
- Demonstrated experience in the editing, coordination and publication of a wide range of documents.
- Demonstrates an understanding of intelligence systems, practices and processses.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting, collating and presenting research material
The successful applicant must have or be able to obtain a Government security clearance to Top Secret level before any appointment offer can be confirmed. Appointee's may be deployed nationally or inter-nationally on occasions for indefinite periods.

1. Service Delivery
|
Provides a specialist editorial and research capability by:
Editorial Service
- Edits all documents to ensure correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Co-ordinates, drafts and edits material for all NDIB products.
- Ensures publications meet the highest possible standards of accuracy, quality and presentation.
- Ensures the profile of the NDIB and the contributing agencies namely the New Zealand Customs Service, the Ministry of Health and the New Zealand Police is represented in a way that maintains stakeholder trust and confidence.
- Negotiates with document owners so that NDIB priorities are managed.
- Consults with staff and management to ensure documentation meets their needs.
- Ensures protective marking are correct, seek and obtain appropriate releases for documents.
Publications Advice
- Acts as a source of expert guidance and advice for the NDIB including distributing, printing formats.
- Assists the manager and staff to present information in the most effective manner.
- Provides timely advice to staff and management on writing and grammar best practice.
- Provides advice on document structure for effective communication
- Maintains and expands the NDIB distribution list and co-ordinates dissemination of all documents and intelligence products.
Research Capability
Contributes to specific research projects within the NDIB by:
- Conducting in-depth research from a variety of internal and external sources
- Identifying areas/parameters requiring research
- Liaises with strategic analysts and contribute ideas on current projects
- Conducts research as requested
- Provides planning advice and support for all NDIB tasking and products
- Collates and presents research in a useable format
- Identifies relevant issues from research conducted and brings to the attention of relevant analysts
