The New Zealand Police Information and Communications Technology Service Centre are seeking to appoint an experienced Infrastructure Engineer: Unix to the Computing Infrastructure group, based at the Royal New Zealand Police College, Porirua.

This role is responsible for delivering detailed infrastructure development solutions to the Computing Infrastructure group. The successful candidate will have experience in a large organisation and be able to demonstrate an advanced level of expertise with UNIX or Linux. You will be expected to take technical ownership of your projects, and will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high level and detailed designs for the projects you are assigned to.

This is a dynamic and challenging position, and the successful applicant will have 5 to 10 years proven experience with Linux or Unix (Solaris) and Middleware technologies, and will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • high level documentation skills, with experience in creating high level and detailed designs.
  • proven ability of technical leadership in the implementation of designs into a robust and supportable solution for an enterprise.
  • advanced diagnostic skills that can resolve complex faults in an enterprise environment. Experience with ESB support, Webshere, system management solutions, or network designs are a bonus.

In addition, you will possess and be able to demonstrate the desired behaviours of Accountability for Performance, Exercising Judgement, and Challenging for Continuous Improvement.

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
or        
Unix Certified Professional ; with 5 years Industry operations or development experience.
or
10 years computing industry service experience in operations and/or development environments within large scale organisations. 
 
Purpose

  • To provide business analysis, product assessment, quality assurance and technical solutions for the Police Information & Technology Computer Infrastructure to ensure that it operates correctly and at optimal efficiency.
  • To provide third level support & solution development for the national integrated enterprise infrastructure.
  • To support the Development Manager Computing Infrastructure in managing the delivery of Information & Technology services to New Zealand Police within a quality customer service framework.

Key Accountabilities

1. Service Delivery 

  • Provides third level support to computer infrastructure support unit.
  • Provides computing infrastructure solution design and technical implementation lead for solutions delivered out of the computer infrastructure development group.
  • Determines the cause of problems that cannot be resolved by internal or external sources that may involve the recreation/reproduction of the problem in the development and test environment.
