New Zealand Police are looking to fill the above technically-orientated position within the National Electronic Crime Laboratory (ECL).

As the Technical Administration Officer for the Central ECL Unit in Wellington you will be able to demonstrate:

  • That you have the ability to rapidly absorb, understand and apply new concepts and technologies.
  • That you have a good understanding of and the ability to use technology in a variety of forms (e.g. applications, computer hardware, mobile devices).
  • That you have a good knowledge in standard office computer software applications, including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.

The successful applicant to this position will be required to undergo a full reference and security check and must either have or be able to obtain a Government security clearance to Top Secret level prior to offer of any employment being made.

Position Description: 

Purpose

Contributes to the provision of an efficient electronic crime investigation service by providing technical and administrative support to the Electronic Crime Laboratory of the National Electronic Crime Group.
 
Key Accountabilities

1. Service Delivery 

  • Provides administrative support to the Electronic Crime Laboratory (ECL) by:

- Monitoring and maintaining appropriate levels of consumable stores within their ECL facility, in consultation with the National ECL Administration Officer.
- Maintaining the local ECL Exhibit Register database
- Maintaining the ECL Asset database.
- Maintaining official ECL files.
- Maintaining and disseminating updated documentation, reports, or reference materials.

  • Under supervision, assists with day-to-day investigations, providing technical support to the Electronic Crime Laboratory (ECL) by:

- carrying out data cloning and preservation, data recovery and basic analysis
- preparation of evidence for EVE, loading casework into EVE and monitoring the delivery of EVE to the frontline staff
- managing Preview facilities, exhibit management and custody, basic level forensic examination and documentation of exhibits
- carry out level one mobile device analysis

  • Provides a reception facility and point of first contact between investigating officers and ECL members. 
  • Receives local case files and enters them into the exhibit database recording and retrieval system.
  • Complies with the guidelines, procedures, format and standards as set out in the ECL Operations Manual or by the ECL Crime Service Centre.
  • Contributes to a safe environment by integrating safety and health into all aspects of work practices and places of work.
  • Adheres to the key concepts of Maori Responsiveness, community orientated policing, partnerships.

2. Customer Service

  • Ensure all service requests and complaints are met with a professional, customer focused and timely response.
  • Encourage an atmosphere of good customer service.
  • Contributes to the assessment of customer needs, analysing customer satisfaction, identifying issues, and developing and implementing appropriate strategies.

Special Requirements

The successful appointee to this position must have or be able to obtain a Government security clearance to Top Secret level before any appointment offer can be confirmed.
