Arrest of suspect in Northland incident

Arrest of suspect in Northland incident

Commissioner Mike Bush

Ngā mihi. Well done to all staff involved in the search for and arrest of the suspect in last Friday’s incident in Whangarei, when shots were fired at police officers. Our objective all along has been to find this person and bring him into custody without anyone being hurt, and it’s a tribute to your professionalism and commitment that we have achieved that.

I also want to thank the public for the assistance they have provided over the past week as we looked for this man.

Keeping up the pressure on drugs

Our efforts to disrupt the drugs trade continue with a successful operation shutting down a large methamphetamine and cocaine network in Auckland this week.

Operation Ceviche has seen 13 people arrested since June, including a patched Hell’s Angels gang member, and resulted in the seizure of cash and drugs, including a significant amount of cocaine.

This and other operations show our determination to reduce the harm drugs cause in our communities. We’re also focused on ensuring that people involved in this offending don’t get to live the high life at the expense of others’ misery by seeking the forfeiture of assets when appropriate.

Well done to all involved.

Until next time, stay safe.
