2 min read

Less than 24 hours since the launch of the EPIC new Police recruitment video ‘Breaking News’ 380 people have started the application process to become a cop.

The video posted to the New Zealand Police Facebook page has now reached more than two million people and been viewed close to 500,000 times. The feedback from the public has been extremely positive with lots of people commending Police on the diversity showcased and the classic ‘Kiwi’ humour.

“We’ve been absolutely blown away by the response to our latest recruitment video,” says Police Commissioner Mike Bush.

“We had a fantastic reaction to last year’s ‘World’s Most Entertaining Police Recruitment Video’ so we knew we had a tough act to follow. It's gratifying to know we have seen similar reaction with this one.”

After the launch of last year’s video 333 people had started the application process on newcops.co.nz by 9am. At 6:30am today 380 people had done this.

There has been a huge number of visits to the ‘New Cops’ website since the launch of the video.

“These figures show that our new video is not only being well-received across the world, but is actually already helping us to achieve our goal of getting more people to apply to join Police,” says Commissioner Bush.

“We’re working to become the safest country and I’m confident this video is already helping us to achieve that objective.”

The new www.ChatCops.co.nz web platform which has launched alongside the new recruitment video provides video, provides responses to questions potential recruits might have.

“If we’ve got your attention with this video – I encourage you to take it one step further. Head along to the ‘ChatCops’ website and find out more about why it’s great to be a cop,” says Commissioner Bush.

“This web platform is a great place for people who are interested in a career with NZ Police to be able to find out more about the job from the people who are actually out there doing it.”

“I encourage you to share the new video via your social media channels and tag your friends and whanau who you believe would make great Police officers.”
