Police reaction to Mikus Senior decision

1 min read

Lower Hutt Police accept Justice Young’s decision today to stay proceedings in a case of historic sexual offending against Jules Mikus Senior.

Police have consulted with the Crown Prosecutor and accept there is no right of appeal.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Small, Lower Hutt CIB, says police have communicated the decision to the complainants.

&#34Like all other cases of sexual abuse, regardless of the outcome of the police investigation, police will continue to work with the victims to reduce the impact of this type of offending on the complainants and their families.

&#34This is particularly true in this case where there has been wide public interest.&#34

Mr Small said that the circumstances of this case are very unique and the occasions when such cases have been stayed are very rare. The judge’s decision does not impact on police ability to investigate other cases of historical sexual offending.
