Woman fights off attacker at Raumati

1 min read

Kapiti Police are praising a Raumati woman who fought off an attacker at her home on Wednesday afternoon.

Detective Constable Wayne Hassell, Kapiti CIB, says the woman was alone at her Raumati Beach home on Wednesday when shortly after midday a man walking along the beach gained access to her property.

&#34She challenged him and was punched during a struggle on the deck,&#34 he says. &#34The victim feared for her safety and sought refuge inside her home. She was chased but managed to get inside and quickly lock the doors.&#34

Mr Hassell says the man then tried to get inside and smashed a large glass panel, suffering deep cuts to his arms and legs.

The woman was able to ring police who were quickly on the scene.

A 34-year-old Wellington man has been arrested and charged with burglary and assault with intent to rape.

He’s been remanded in custody for a psychiatric report and is due to appear again in the Porirua District Court later this month.
