Police urge extra security precautions

1 min read

Police are urging bar owners to take extra security precautions following the seventh aggravated robbery of Auckland bars since February.

At least two men, armed with a gun and various other weapons, are believed to be responsible for this spate of armed robberies.

The Cardrona Ale House in Normanby Rd, Mt Eden was hit at 10:10pm on Tuesday, July 6.

There were a number of staff and patrons in the bar when the two masked offenders came in demanding the takings.

They left in a stolen BMW 318, coloured grey/silver. The two men dumped it 200 metres away in Enfield Street, Auckland City.

"These offenders are getting more brazen and are not averse to assaulting staff, so we urge bar owners again to review their security," said Head of Auckland City Police Crime Squad, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Benefield.

"Bar owners are more than welcome to call us for advice on how to upgrade their security."

Police investigating these robberies have set up a special 0800 number (0800-4-ARMOS or 0800-427-667) for information.
