Further witnesses come forward in Red Beach inquiry

1 min read

Witnesses continue to come forward with information that is being evaluated by Police, after a car mounted a footpath and hit two girls on Saturday afternoon at Red Beach.

Rodney Area Commander, Inspector Janet Hope says, "People have been providing a number of accounts of a vehicle being driven in a way that was dangerous to the public and these reports are being investigated along with the extensive analysis of the crash site."

The investigation is not yet at the stage where a decision can be made as to what action could be taken but the matter will be referred through the Youth Justice System.

"Rodney Police are committed to completing a thorough investigation of the incident in order to make sound recommendations."

"An investigation into a crash spanning several days or weeks is not uncommon as sometimes the issues raised in the course of the investigation are complex, says Inspector Hope. With further witnesses coming forward there is a great deal of information that the officers have to assess," says Inspector Hope.

All five teenagers in the vehicle have been identified. The vehicle was a four door mustard coloured Toyota and was distinctive as it had no registration plates. Any witnesses not yet spoken to can contact Orewa Police. 09 426 4555
