Update in baby homicide case

1 min read

Two people will now appear in the Palmerston North District Court at 2.15pm today on charges relating to the death of a seven-month-old baby girl.

A 32-year-old Upper Hutt man has been charged with murder and a 20-year-old Upper Hutt woman with failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Detective Inspector Rod Drew, Wellington District field crime manager, says background inquiries will continue today in the Upper Hutt area.

Police were alerted when the infant was taken to an Otaki medical centre late on Saturday morning. Tragically however, the baby was already dead.

A post mortem was completed at Wellington yesterday but police are making no comment on the outcome.

The baby’s name has not been released.
