Further Arrest in Liquid Fantasy Importations

A combined New Zealand Police and Customs operation code-named Nadia concluded with the arrest of a 28-year-old Wellington man in Taupo today.

Operation Nadia staff had originally arrested a 25-year-old man and a
22-year-old woman in Wellington on Monday 13 December 2004 on serious drug dealing offences.

Today’s arrest will see the 28-year-old Wellington man appear in the Taupo District Court on Thursday, 23 December 2004. He is charged with:

• Imports a Class B Controlled Drug (GBL) 9 charges
• Conspires to Import a Class B Controlled Drug (GBL)
• Conspires to Supply a Class B Controlled Drug (GBL)
• Possession of a Class B Controlled Drug for Supply (GBL)
• Supplies a Class B Controlled Drug for Supply (GBL)
• Money Laundering.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darrin Thomson of the Wellington Organised Crime Unit says "we have identified over 100 shipments of GBL being imported into New Zealand between October 2003 and December 2004.

"These shipments total approximately 200 litres that have an estimated street value of in excess of one million dollars.

"We have also seized two vehicles valued in excess of $50,000 and frozen a bank account with more than $80,000 in it."

This concludes a 4-month joint Police and Customs operation.
