Daytime running headlights for police vehicles over holiday period

1 min read

Over the Christmas holiday period the drivers of most Police vehicles will turn on their headlights in order to highlight safety at this time of year. The increases in traffic volumes over the whole country over the Christmas holiday period make this an especially hazardous time to be travelling on the roads.

"One of the purposes of this initiative is to highlight the increased visibility that comes from using headlights in marginal light, particularly in rural situations" said Assistant Commissioner Peter Marshall.

"Not only is visibility enhanced for the drivers of Police vehicles but also the vehicle itself is more visible," he said.

The use of headlights during daylight hours is common practice in a number of other countries and the public are encouraged to do the same over the holiday period.
