Operation Wellington Team making steady progress

1 min read

The Operation Wellington Team is making steady progress in the investigation into the brutal and callous killing of 83 year old Mona Morriss.

"We have identified a large number of persons of interest to the inquiry. We are following up with interviews of those persons, establishing their movements to eliminate them as the offender".

As part of the investigation we are going to be assisted by recruits from the Royal New Zealand Police College, to go door to door around Marton in an effort to speak to all house occupants.

30 recruits will be assisting on Sunday 13 February and 66 on Monday 14 February.

We will be questioning house owners in an effort to gather further information about the following points:

• Occupants who were in Marton on 3-4 January
• Any visitors to Marton
• Any sightings of Mona Morriss
• Any knowledge or sightings of her missing purse
• Any suspicious persons seen in the area

Due to normal attrition with leave commitments, we are bringing in a further 3 Detectives from Christchurch and 3 from Palmerston North. They will be starting on Monday 14 February and this keeps our investigation team operating with 25 staff.

"We continue to be extremely well supported by the Marton Community, with baking, use of facilities and resources".
