Youth charged with Making a False Statement

1 min read

A 15 year old Feilding youth has been reported to Feilding Police Youth Aid on a charge of Making a False Statement.

This is in connection to the brutal murder of Mona Morriss at Marton on the 3rd – 4th of January 2005.

The youth made up an elaborate story in which he identified the killer of Mona Morriss.

Police wasted 25 hours of valuable time investigating his story, before it was determined to be false.

"It is frustrating for the investigative staff. Their days are long enough without wasting time on a selfish and senseless person making up a story to fulfil his own ego".

The offence of ‘Making a False Statement to Police’ carries a penalty of 3 months imprisonment or $2,000.00 fine.
