A man who was found dead at a Waingaro farm property in the Waikato on Tuesday died from a gunshot wound, police say.

Dwayne Andre Wilson, 30, lived at the property. He was found early on Tuesday morning by ambulance staff who had been called to the property. Mr Wilson was known as Andre.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead said interim post mortem results had confirmed Mr Wilson died as the result of a gunshot wound.

A team of 14 police from Huntly, Ngaruawahia and Hamilton are investigating the death.

Mr Whitehead said a vehicle had left the Waingaro Rd property where the shooting occurred before police arrived on Tuesday morning. The investigating team is interested in the movements of vehicles on roads on the west side of the Waikato River between 3am and 5am on the morning of June 7.

In particular, police were interested in any vehicles that were travelling along SH22.

"We would like to speak to anyone who was travelling these roads between those times, even if they didn't see anything," Mr Whitehead said.

"It's important that we speak to as many people as possible who were in the wider Waingaro area at the time so we can build up a clear picture of any events that may have taken place in the vicinity of the farm property."

Anyone who was travelling in the area at the time should contact Huntly Police on 07 8287560.
