Auckland City Police investigating the murder of 58 year-old Bhagubhai Vaghela will set up a mobile office outside where he was killed so that locals with information about things they might have seen or heard around the time of his death can go directly to members of the inquiry team.
Police believe Mr Vaghela was shot sometime after 8.30pm on Sunday night - June 19 - and have also urged locals or passersby to call the free phone number to supply information. The number - 0800 736 325 - was set up yesterday and received some calls over night.
Detective Inspector Bernie Hollewand is leading the homicide investigation. He says yesterday's post mortem examination of Mr Vaghela confirmed he'd been shot once in the front of the body.
"We're obviously concerned that whoever did this could strike again, so it's vital that people who have any small piece of information to offer about unusual behaviour around the Uptown Mini Mart on Sunday evening, get in touch with the Operation Rendall team as soon as possible," Mr Hollewand said.
"We're working very closely with our colleagues in neighbouring Police districts, so we've got plenty to do but we can't solve this murder with Police work alone - information is what we need."
