Scene examination continues in Upper Hutt homicide

1 min read

Investigators expect it will take most of today to complete their scene examination of a flat in Merton Street, Upper Hutt, where a man died in Saturday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Soni Malaulau, investigation head, says a 39-year-old woman has been arrested and will appear in the Upper Hutt District Court at 2.15pm today charged with murder.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death of Daniel Victor Poata, aged 33, of Upper Hutt.

"We hope our scene examination will finish today but there is still a range of background inquiries we need to make," Detective Senior Sergeant Malaulau says. "We're still very keen to speak with people who may have heard an argument or raised voices at the property on Saturday, particularly around 7.30pm to 8pm."

People with information are asked to called the investigation base at Upper Hutt Police Station on telephone 527 2300.

A post mortem is being held today to help establish how Mr Poata died.
