Series of incidents in north Hamilton leads to arrest

1 min read

A man is in custody in the Hamilton Police Station following a series of incidents in the suburb of Queenwood early this morning that saw a garage and two cars seriously damaged.

Acting Senior Sergeant Jason McKay said Police were called to a De Vere Cres address about 12.50am after reports a man had thrown a pot-plant at a car.

"He's then threatened the car's owners, who came out to investigate the disturbance, with a broken golf club.

"The victims have managed to restrain the attacker and call Police, on our arrival the alarm was raised about a fire a short distance off on Bankwood Rd."

Officers found a detached garage on a property ablaze, a car parked inside the building suffered serious damage as did property stored there by the owners.

"The man arrested for the earlier incident was found in possession of a burnt compass from the car and the golf club he had armed himself with came from the garage that was set on fire.

"At this stage the fire appears to have been deliberately lit and the man is currently being questioned in relation to both of these incidents," said Mr McKay.
