Mystery deceased was elderly

1 min read

The Police cordons around the Western Springs Park have been removed and the area is now open to the public after the discovery of an elderly man's clothed body in the park's lake this morning.

The man - believed to have been aged between 65 and 75 - was wearing mismatched dark suit-style jacket and trousers, brown leather shoes and blue dress socks. His short hair was grey, he was of medium build and would have been 5'6'' to 5'8'' tall.

Detective Sergeant Brett Batty of Auckland City Police Crime Squad said inquiries are continuing into who the man was and how he came to be in the lake. Any helpful information from the public would be appreciated.

"We don't know much about him at all right now but the pathologist tells us it's possible he had medical problems in the past."
