Distinctive items found with murdered woman

1 min read

Murdered Mt Roskill mother of one, 22 year-old Katrina Jefferies, was dumped semi-naked and wrapped in a red tarpaulin, a yellow raincoat and a black plastic rubbish bag on a slope near the road going through Waikowhai Reserve.

Auckland City Police have been investigating her murder since she was found by passers-by on July 12. Today they released further details of what was found with her body, including a copy of a "painting" which might have been dumped with her.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley said the red tarpaulin was comparatively rare because of its colour and the yellow raincoat was unusual because of it's label - Stormwear.

"We need to hear from people who are missing these items or people who know of others who used to have such things but no longer do," Mr Whitley said.

"Also, the painting - such as it is - might be recognised as one that a friend, acquaintance or family member used to have but which hasn't been seen for a month or so. If anyone recognises it, they should contact the investigation team immediately."

He said the team had made steady progress since the investigation got underway and had spoken to a number of people of interest, only some of whom had been eliminated from the inquiry.

"It's possible that more than one person was involved in Katrina's death and the dumping of her body in these distinctive items, so it's possible that more than one person knows what happened to her in the time between 8pm on Sunday the 10th of July and 8am on Tuesday the 12th.

"We'd very much like to hear from anyone who recognises these distinctive items recovered from the scene she was discarded in."
