Western Waikato Police investigating the aggravated robbery of security guards delivering money to a Huntly bank are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Huntly Sub-area Manager, Senior Sergeant Pete Simpson, said three men entered the premises of the Huntly ANZ bank about 12.12pm today.

"One of these men was armed with a firearm which was presented towards security guards engaged in the reloading of an ATM machine inside the bank.

"The offenders have made off with a yet to be determined sum of cash, towards a blue Mitsubishi Legnum car that drove off along Main St in a northerly direction."

Mr Simpson believes the offenders have doubled round the town to confuse responding Police with the stolen Legnum recovered a short time later at the Mobil service station on Great South Rd, south of Huntly's CBD.

"We're appealing for anyone who witnessed the robbery and hasn't already been spoken to Police to come forward.

"Equally we'd like to hear from anyone who may have seen the occupants of a blue Mitsubishi Legnum acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the ANZ bank or who may have seen the car being abandoned at the Mobil station who may have information on how they may have left the area from there."

Anyone with information on the robbery or the identity of those involved is asked to contact the Huntly Police Station on 07 8287560.
