12 Crimes of Christmas

1 min read

With Christmas just around the corner, Police in Central District want to make sure that you don't become a victim of crime over the holidays, or spend the festive season locked in a cell.

The 12 Crimes of Christmas campaign will see a crime prevention or safety message issued by Central District every working day for 12 days beginning Thursday, 3 December.

Burglary, identity fraud, personal safety and road safety are just some of the messages that will feature with simple steps to help make your Christmas a happy one.

To help everyone stay on the right side of the law there will be reminders of some of the rules and the penalties that a breach of those rules could bring.

Operations Manager Inspector David White said: "The subjects featuring in this campaign are not restricted to Christmas. It is, however, a time when we are extra busy and stressed getting prepared for festivities and holidays, and have bigger social calendars. We are more prone to taking our eye off the ball giving opportunists a chance to take advantage. Hopefully by reminding people of a few simple precautions we can reduce those chances and help people to have a safe and happy Christmas and New Year."

All of the messages will be posted on this news site at www.police.govt.nz/news
