Operation Edgewater - Day Three

2 February, 2010 - 10:22

The officer leading the large team of police investigating the murder of Auckland taxi driver Hiren MOHINI says the Operation Edgewater phone line which has been set up to assist the enquiry is proving to be a valuable resource.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones says the number of calls that have been received to the 0800 444 014 number since it was established on Sunday is very encouraging.

“Every call we receive is important to us, every enquiry we make is a breakthrough. The community and the nation want to see the person or persons responsible for this frenzied attack held to account for this murder.”

“Residents who live in the streets close to View Road should check their street bins, their sheds, for items that may be discovered or missing. Clothing may have gone missing off clothes lines. If there’s anything that may be of interest to police then my investigation team will be keen to hear.”

“There are now forty investigators and police officers involved in this homicide enquiry. Every available resource at our disposal is being used.”

“An area canvas is continuing in the streets around View Road Mount Eden. Additional staff will be deployed to view the CCTV images which are being made available from sources within the Auckland CBD. Forensic and fingerprint specialists are examining a range of items linked to the murder.”

Police urge anyone with information to call 0800 444 014.

“We are determined to solve this murder, and we will,” Mr. Jones said.

Note: Crimestoppers is an anonymous option on 0800 555 111.
