Arrests in overnight Hamilton street robbery

1 min read

A Hamilton man faces robbery charges following an incident in the central city overnight.

The 35-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a 41-year-old male friend and took a small sum of cash from him.

Police understand both men are homeless and had been in each other's company awaiting their benefit payments.

When these payments have come through the pair went to a park for a smoke where the offender allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and kicked him before making off with his money.

Ambulance staff arrived at the scene to attend the victim while the offender was located a short time later outside a London St nightclub.

The victim's headache didn't end there, if it wasn't bad enough losing his money the victim found himself under arrest for a number of bail breaches, both men will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court this morning.
