1 min read

One man was taken to hospital while another arrested following a motorbike crash on the outskirts of Hamilton early this morning.

The event began about 4.30am when Police officers patrolling along the Waikato River rounded a corner of the road to find a motorbike with two people aboard doing a wheel stand.

The rider of the 400cc dirt bike then sped off with a pursuit being initiated under the management of the Police Northern Communications Centre.

The motorbike sped through Fairfield at speeds varying between 70-100km/h before turning on to Victoria St, travelling through intersections ignoring red lights, and on through to Forest Lake.

The Suzuki 400cc motorbike was reported travelling at various times on the wrong side of the road before officers lost sight of the pair in Bremworth Park.

The motorbike and the two men were sighted by Police again near Whatawhata but officers again lost track of the pair.

A short time later the motorbike was found to have crashed into a wooden fence and the male pillion passenger was seen lying injured a short distance away.

While he was taken to Waikato Hospital for treatment to minor injuries his colleague was being sought and was located by a Police dog and handler in a nearby paddock and arrested on driving charges.
