Man killed in car crash

1 min read

A man has died following a road crash in Shannon this morning.

The crash happened around 11am on SH57 north of Shannon. A hire van carrying seven people, believed to be tourists, left the road and rolled.

One male passenger has been killed. Superficial injuries were suffered by the other occupants, all men, but no-one required hospital treatment.

Police, fire and ambulance all attended the scene.

The Serious Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash. The road conditions are wet in the area. It is not known whether it was raining at the time of the collision and it is too early to say if the weather was a factor in the crash.

The name of the man who has died will not be released until next of kin have been notified and if the occupants of the van are foreign tourists this may take some time.

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact Constable Charlie Rudd at Levin Police Station on 06 366 0500.

Media enquiries should be referred to Communications Manager Kim Perks on 06 351 2546 or 027 234 8256.
