Businessman charged following fatal road crash

A businessman from China has been charged following the death of another man in a road crash in Shannon on Wednesday (2 June).

The crash happened around 11am on SH57 north of Shannon. A hire van carrying seven people left the road and rolled.

The men in the vehicle were all from China and visiting New Zealand on telecommunications business. One of the passengers, 29-year-old Yefang Jin from Shanghai died at the scene of the crash. Superficial injuries were suffered by the other occupants but no-one required hospital treatment.

A 56-year-old man from China has been charged with careless driving causing death and will appear at Levin District Court on Wednesday, 9 June.
