1 min read

Auckland City Police are advising people to avoid Queen St between 4.30pm and 6.30pm today as up to 1,500 Radical Youth and Union along with May Day marchers will be in the vicinity.

Radical Youth and Union have advised Police they will march down Queen St from Aotea Square at 4.30pm and will gather at the Queen Elizabeth Square where they will meet with May Day marchers at 5.30pm.

It's expected that many of the Radical Youth and Union marchers will then walk back up Queen St with the May Day marchers to Aotea Square where a rally will be held at 6pm.

Motorists are urged to avoid Queen St and side streets adjacent to the route.

Police have been advised that up to 1,000 pupils from schools throughout the district will be bussed into the city after the school day to protest against youth pay rates.

May Day march organisers have estimated up to 500 people will attend their march.
