Investigation into 'cowardly' home invasion continues

1 min read

Police in Taumarunui are continuing to investigate the "cowardly" home invasion of a man with disabilities at Manaaki Trust in Para Street on 7 June.

An appeal to the Taumarunui community for information resulted in Police executing search warrants over the weekend.

A large amount of stolen property was recovered during those warrants and four men have been arrested and charged with offences ranging from burglary to receiving stolen goods. However none of the property recovered was related to the Para Street home invasion.

Detective Sergeant Rob Savage said: "Events at the weekend demonstrated the importance of public information. We may not have found what we initially went looking for, but we did resolve other offences in the process. I feel confident that similar community support can help us to locate the cowardly offenders who targeted an extremely vulnerable man on 7 June."

Police are still searching for property stolen from that home invasion. This includes a flat screen TV, Freeview decoder, DVD player, packets of tobacco, meat from the freezer and other grocery items.

On Tuesday, 8 June, some time after 8am, a man was seen carrying a TV on Para St walking towards Makere St, wearing a dark hoody. Was this the Para Street victim's TV? Was he one of the offenders?

Between 8am and 8.30am on Tuesday 8 June, a man was seen carrying over full New World shopping bags towards Para St. Some of the items stolen from the Para Street victim were carried away in New World shopping bags. Was this man carrying stolen goods? Was he one of the offenders?

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Rob Savage at Taumarunui Police on 07 895 8119. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
