Tauranga Police investigate assault on elderly man

Tauranga Police are investigating a serious assault on an elderly Tauranga man in his home after they were called to an address in The Avenues, Tauranga, today.

Police were called to break into the address after a family member became concerned. They discovered the 80 year old man with serious head injuries inside the house.

The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Lindsay Pilbrow, says the man was taken to Tauranga Hospital by ambulance, where he is currently undergoing surgery.

Detective Senior Sergeant Pilbrow says his condition is critical and an investigation has been launched which includes speaking to the occupants of the house where the victim lives and neighbours.
