City road death

1 min read

The Police Serious Crash Unit is attending the scene of a fatal crash between a car and a motorcycle on Dominion Road that happened shortly before 1.20pm.

The male motorcyclist was killed and his female pillion passenger has been taken to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.

Motorists are advised to avoid the city end of Dominion Rd as it is blocked between View and Bellevue Roads.

The driver of the car is assisting Police with inquiries.

The crash was a short distance from an earlier one on Dominion Rd today during which four stationary vehicles were hit by a motorist who was subsequently arrested for driving while incapable. Two people were taken to hospital for observation as a result of that crash.

Auckland Road Policing Manager Inspector Gavin Macdonald says all road users need to share the roads with care and to be vigilant whether they are walking, cycling, driving or riding.

"A moment's carelessness or inattention on anyone's behalf can be tragic within seconds."
