Police are appealing for witnesses to yesterday's robbery of the Tram Station Cafe in Foxton where a 17-year-old employee was punched and threatened.
A young family of four were dining in the cafe in Foxton's Main Street when two men burst into the premises about 1.30pm and confronted the young male cafe employee.
Detective Richard Morse, Levin CIB, said the cafe worker was assaulted and threatened by one of the men. An undisclosed sum of money was taken from the till and the offenders then left the area in a white car.
He said the brazen robbery and assault had shocked the victim who was seen by ambulance officers. Luckily he didn't require further medical attention.
Details of the two offenders are sketchy but it's believed one of the men was wearing a bandanna or cloth of some sort that covered his head.
"We understand that two adults and two young children were dining at the cafe about the time of the robbery," Detective Morse said. "It's possible they may have seen something and we'd like them to get in touch with us."
Police are also appealing for people who may have seen suspicious activity near the cafe before or after the robbery, or who saw a white car in the area.
