Missing Man Recovered

1 min read

Today around midday, Central Otago Police recovered the body of Roxburgh man, Paul Wilson (28), from the Clutha River, who went missing while collecting water samples from the Talla Burn Stream on Wednesday last week.

Mr Wilson was located on the Clutha River between Talla Burn and the SH8 Bridge at Beaumont.

Mr Wilson was found at about 11am by a commercial jet boat operator. The jet boat operator had been part of the search and had continued to keep observations on the river, Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw said.

"We believe Mr Wilson has always been within the search area but had only recently become visible," Detective Sergeant Shaw said.

"Police would particularly like to the think the commercial jet boat operator for his efforts and assistance during the search and also in the recovery of Mr Wilson," Detective Sergeant Shaw said.

Police also wanted to thank Central Otago LandSar, volunteer searchers, local farmers and Contact Energy, who all assisted in some way.

The matter has now been referred to the coroner.

Mr Wilson's family have asked for privacy from the media.
