Hamilton Police investigating the alleged sexual assault of a woman in the east of the City this morning are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Chris McRae of the Hamilton CIB said the 27-year-old female victim was walking along Brookfield St towards Dey St about 7.30am when a man driving a car pulled up alongside her at the intersection and offered her a ride.

"She accepted his offer and got into the car and was driven to Marshmeadow Rd where she was sexually assaulted.

"About 9am the man has driven her back to town in his silver station-wagon type vehicle, pulling up at Galloway Park on Galloway St.

"She managed to get the attention of a Council Parks worker and ask for help and the offender drove off, around the other side of Galloway Park on to Dey St where he was lost from view."

Mr McRae said there were several people in the area at the time who may have seen either the car, victim or offender and Police want to hear from them.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact me at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200, alternatively information can be left anonymously on the CrimeStoppers crimeline, 0800 555111."
