Witnesses sought - vicious assault in Central Wellington

1 min read

An enquiry team has been assembled to investigate a vicious assault in Te Aro Park at about 2 am on Sunday 26 November 2006.

O/C Investigation Detective Inspector Mike Arnerich said "there were about 100 people milling around watching the incident in Te Aro Park and we need to identify all of them. We have had excellent cooperation from about 25 of those witnesses so far, but want the others to contact us as soon as possible."

This is a very serious incident with the victim in ICU in a critical but stable condition at the moment. It is quite likely that people who witnessed the incident are unaware of how seriously injured the victim actually is.

Each witness is describing other witnesses present and the investigation team is trying to identify each of those witnesses. Those people can save the team a huge amount of time by coming forward and advising us who they are, even if they don't have any other information to offer.

At least 3 people were involved in the incident.

The focus of the investigation is to identify a man and a woman who left the scene walking towards Courtenay Place. These persons are described as:

The man is a Maori or Polynesian, 19-25 years, 6 ft tall, solid muscular build, wearing a top with vertical stripes, clean shaven short black hair.

The woman is European, early 20's, medium build, shoulder length dark hair, wearing light coloured short top, greyish trousers/jeans, high heeled shoes.

Investigators are currently trawling through CCTV footage in the area to try and identify these persons

Any body with information should contact the Operation Dixon investigation team on 04 4963508.
