Homicide investigation launched

At about 9.10pm on Wednesday 29 November 2006 Police were called to a

Papanui address where they discovered the body of a middle age women.

As a result of discovering the body a homicide Investigation was launched.

A number of persons were removed from the house and were taken back to the Christchurch Central police Station where interviews were commenced.

As a result of initial inquiries and interviews a 16 year old female has been

charged with Murder and will appear in the Christchurch District / Youth Court on the morning of Thursday 30 November 2006.

Police will be conducting a Forensic examination of the house over the following days. The Officer in Charge of the Homicide Investigation is Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Wormald.

Papanui continue with their investigations into the death of a 46 year old woman last night. Her 16 year old daughter has been charged with murder.

Given the relationship and the need to protect the child's identity in Youth Court the name of the deceased cannot be released or published. Next of kin have been advised

DSS Wormald says the scene will remain under guard over night with the scene examination continuing tomorrow. A small section of Morrison Avenue has been closed due to the incident and it is hoped that it will reopen to traffic later today.
