Witnesses sought for Wairakei Road crash in Christchurch

Papanui Police are appealing to get in touch with two doctors who stopped to help at the scene of an overnight car crash in Bryndwr, Christchurch in which a 19-year-old woman died.

The crash happened about 12.20am on Wairakei Road between Ilam and Idris Roads. Three people were in a car which collided with some parked vehicles.

Police say the young woman, whose name has not yet been released, died a short time later. A male front seat passenger is in Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries however the male driver did not require medical attention.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Two doctors were among those first to the scene and provided immediate assistance to the young woman. Police are asking the doctors to get in touch with Papanui Police on telephone 03 363 7400, and ask for Detective Richard Quested.

A number of other people were in the area at the time and saw or heard the crash. If you can help police with information, then please contact Papanui Police.
