1 min read

A scene guard will remain in place overnight securing a Hamilton school that suffered significant damage following a fire around 6.45pm. Shift Manager, Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno, said detectives and fire investigators will return to the scene of the fire in the Technology Block of the Fairfield Intermediate School on Clarkin Rd tomorrow to work on determining the cause of the blaze. "It's too early to say if the how the fire started or if it is suspicious or not however the scene will be protected and treated as such until we know otherwise." At its height dozens of fire-fighters were working to tackle the blaze which Fire Service Area Manager, Roy Breeze, said was a third alarm callout. "We had about 36 fire-fighters and eight fire appliances at the scene working alongside ambulance and police staff," said Mr Breeze. "The fire was well involved when we arrived and spreading in two different directions in the two storey building, our focus was trying to save the classroom and materials inside." End
