The wall comes down on Hamilton burglary

1 min read

It had all the ingredients of a Hollywood crime thriller but in the end thieves, who removed a wall to get to their quarry, left empty handed and are now on the run from Hamilton Police.

Neighbours alerted Police to an incident in Claudelands shortly after 4am today after an alarm across the street was activated and a man was seen trying to wheel away a motorbike.

Responding officers arrived to find burglars had been quite organised, towing a trailer to help get away with a motorcycle they were intent on stealing.

Foiled by the motorbike being locked in a garage between two cars the burglars then dismantled a small stone wall between two properties to gain access to the garage and used part of the wall to make a ramp for the trailer.

In addition, the offenders also broke into the neighbour's garage and attempted to make off with an outboard motor.

With the alarm raised the offenders abandoned the outboard motorcycle and were last seen wheeling the motorcycle away, the Ducati was recovered a short distance away while the offenders remain at large.

Police enquiries into identifying those responsible are continuing and focusing around the recovered trailer, which has not been reported as stolen.
