Search for hunter resumes

1 min read

Twenty four searchers and two police dogs will be in the field today to continue the search for missing Ashburton hunter, Corey Foster, assisted by the Defence Force Iroquois.

Fresh teams have arrived today and there are now Search and Rescue volunteers groups from Arthurs Pass, Oxford, Christchurch, Methven and the Cliff Face Rescue team from Christchurch. Also from Christchurch are police staff, plus police dogs Ice and Zanda with their handlers in tow.

The Salvation Army from Ashburton is doing the catering.

Sergeant Peter Summerfield says that they are having regular meetings with Corey's family who are staying nearby.

"We will be covering areas today which we have identified as having a high probability that Corey might have travelled there," he says. "We are reasonably confident that he is not in the open; aerial searchers would have spotted him by now. We are concentrating on bush areas and places he could have somehow become concealed. "

It has rained overnight in the Avoca Valley where 9 field staff and the two dog teams stayed last night.
