1 min read

Porirua Police have arrested and charged a 24-year-old local man with the murder of Fitzgerald Risati in Cannons Creek early on Saturday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, head of Porirua CIB, said the man has also been charged with the attempted murder of Fitzgerald's brother Risati Risati, 21, who is still in hospital recovering from a stab wound to his back.

The man arrested will appear in the Porirua District Court at 3pm today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Oxnam said the arrest is the result of extensive inquiries throughout the weekend, including assistance from members of the Porirua community.

"Inquiries are continuing to find a second offender that we believe was involved in this homicide," he said.

The crime scene examination in the Cannons Creek shopping centre has finished and the forensic analysis is underway.

Detective Senior Sergeant Oxnam said Mr Risati's family has been advised of the arrest. "They're lovely people who are drawing strength and support from their family, faith and friends."

A funeral for Fitzgerald Risati is expected to be held on Friday.
