Gang activities under scrutiny

Gang activities under scrutiny

National News

A regional collaboration of Police resources over the past six months has resulted in 17 people helping Police this morning with investigations into the supply and distribution of drugs after 12 search warrants were executed by Police in south Auckland and Waikato.

Those assisting Police this morning either belong to or are associated with the organised criminal gangs, the Killer Beez and The Tribesmen.

Ten of the search warrants were executed in the south Auckland suburbs of Otara and Papatoetoe while two were carried out in Waikato. A quantity of methamphetamine and cannabis was recovered during this morning's activities, as were two firearms.

One of the search warrants executed was at the business premise of Colourway Records in Otara. That property has been cordoned off pending a scene examination.

Counties Manukau District CIB head, Detective Inspector John Tims, says the six-month operation has been a huge success to date and should go a long way to dispel some of the untruths circulated in media over the past months about the true nature of this group's activities.
