Police attending an overnight attack on a pair of Hamilton ambulance officers have arrested two people on serious assault and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle charges.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page of the Hamilton CIB said Police responded to a call for assistance from St John Ambulance after the alarm was raised by ambulance officers attending a call at an East Hamilton address shortly after 8.30pm.

"It is very disturbing that these people feel they can violently attack those called to come to their aid.

"Ambulance staff provide a vital public service helping people in need and their work is already difficult enough without being exposed to behaviour such as last night's malicious, drunken attack."

The two people arrested, an 18-year-old woman and 19-year-old man will appear in the Hamilton District Court next Tuesday to face their charges.
