Hamilton Police have stern warning following fracas

1 min read

Several people nursing bumps and bruises face court action this week following a fracas in Hamilton East that saw Police come down hard on those involved.

And they warn anyone else contemplating anything of a similar nature to think again as they will be adopting a zero tolerance approach to such behaviour.

Senior Sergeant Greg Dunn of the Hamilton Police said six people were arrested after officers were called to a major disturbance at a Ford St address about 1am yesterday which saw several of the 80-odd people there pelt Police with glass bottles.

"Donning protective equipment our staff quelled the disturbance there. No sooner was that sorted and our staff had to deal with another fight involving the tenants a few doors down as they blamed each other over who was responsible for a burglary.

"As that quietened down the party at the original address flared up again and additional staff were called in with officers forming skirmish lines to clear the street."

Mr Dunn said about 25 officers were involved in clearing the street and six people were arrested in an incident Police say could easily have been avoided.

"Our message is simple, if you're going to have a party take some host responsibility, have food and safe drivers on hand and if your mates are getting out of control look after them.

"When it gets to the point of Police having to be called in we have a very clear zero tolerance approach and there are very serious consequences for all involved."
